Chelvanaya Gabriel is a queer trans-non-binary disabled multidisciplinary artivist, curator, and resilience facilitator. A prolific self-taught visual artist, they began painting as an Audre Lorde-inspired form of self-care, healing, and survival after the 2016 election. They use their artistic practice to create space for collective witnessing and processing stories of wellness, trauma, disability, and neurodiversity, especially those that center QT/BIPOC folx. Decolonizing contemplative practices and embodying ancestral knowledge are critical elements of their artistic and consulting practice. Chelvanaya also developed the concept and practice of creative resilience, an art-based method of exploring wellness, identity, and resilience.
